IET Fellow, a Distinguished Professor under the National Thousand Young Talents Plan, Guangdong Province Zhujiang Scholar, and a doctoral supervisor. He has received the Guangzhou City Science and Technology Award (First Prize), mentored students to achieve national-level awards in the "Challenge Cup" national competitions: a second prize in the "Challenge Cup" National University Students' Extracurricular Academic Science and Technology Works Competition ("Da Tiao"), and a bronze prize in the "Challenge Cup" National University Students' Entrepreneurship Plan Competition ("Xiao Tiao"). He has also received multiple Best Paper Awards at IEEE international conferences.
Dr. Ling obtained his B.Eng. degree and M.Phil. degree from the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology in 1997 and 2000 respectively, and his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2003. His academic career includes positions as Lecturer at King's College London during 2004-2010, Principal Lecturer and Reader in the University of Lincoln during 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 respectively. He has been appointed the Distinguished Professor under the Hundred Talents Program in the Guangdong University of Technology during 2012-2025, and a tenured Professor at the Tsientang Institute for Advanced Study since 2025.
Currently, he serves as the Secretary of the Digital Signal Processing Technical Committee of the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society, and as an editorial board member for various SCI journals including IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics. He has organized various IEEE international conferences such as the IEEE ICASSP 2019, and presented keynote speeches at various IEEE international conferences including IEEE ISPCE Asia 2022.
His research interests include time frequency analysis, optimization theory, artificial intelligence, nonlinear digital signal processing systems, control theory and human signal processing. He has authored one textbook, one research monograph, five book chapters, over 270 SCI journal papers, over 150 IEEE international conference papers and holds over 50 granted patents.
